Miscommunication can lead to problems in relationships that can be easily smoothed over and sorted out in sessions. In counseling sessions, Dr. Kerns will work together with couples, integrating techniques, designed to generate understanding of the viewpoint of each partner. From this understanding she works together, with each couple, on building the relationship by blending the strengths and weaknesses of each partner. 

Success is achieved by a consistent working through of issues, each time with the partners taking more responsibility with the tools that they have learned from previous sessions.
